When your a busy bee like me, sometimes you forget to make time for your other kids aka your pets. Balancing taking care of myself, my little one, and other things around the house, sometimes I forget that I have two dogs that also need some love and attention.
So I have to remind myself to make an effort to go outside and play with them as much as possible. Whenever its sunny outside or just a nice day I like to put the little one in the carrier and go outside and play fetch.
I think it’s important to give your pets as much attention as you possibly can, because otherwise they may feel neglected and get jealous. Its a hard adjustment for any animal once you bring a baby home, because they went from being your center of attention to second choice, I know for my two dogs it’s been a rough time.
They used to spend every second with me, cuddling on the couch to just chillen anywhere around the house. But once I became pregnant I decided I needed to set some limits, so no more laying up on the couch and they were limited to their own little section of the house.
They definitely hated it, and it took them a while to adjust, but since I was expecting a little one I needed to make the house was a safe and clean environment. And once she was born it was hard to give them any attention at all because I was still healing. I felt bad because they didn’t understand what was going on and all they wanted to do was play.
But after getting my whole mom routine down, giving these other kiddos some quality time has been a real success. I take about 20-30 minutes of the day and I got outside and I throw the ball around for them, and sometimes during my baby’s nap periods I try and sneak a little fetch in here and there.
I know it makes them a lot happier even though I can’t sit and play with them all day like I used to, just going outside and giving them some love goes a long way for them, I’m grateful to have two dogs because at least I know they won’t get lonely since they have each other to keep them company.
In conclusion don’t forget about your furr babies, they are your kids too!
And on a side note just remember it getting hot outside so don’t forget to make sure they are well hydrated!!
